Job Title: Pregnancy Choices Practitioner/Counsellor

Purpose: Reporting to the Service Manager, the Pregnancy Choices Practitioner provides compassionate, non-judgmental counselling to clients facing pregnancy crises or loss, requiring a minimum Diploma-level Counselling Qualification. The role involves approximately one day per week (5-6 hours) with flexible availability for client appointments within 3 days of referral.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver person-centered counselling (face-to-face, telephone, or online) to support clients through pregnancy crises, offering information on parenting, termination, or adoption while respecting client autonomy.
  • Provide empathetic support for clients experiencing baby loss or termination, aiding grief processing and recovery.
  • Share information on external support (housing, benefits, social services) and maintain client confidentiality and safeguarding standards.
  • Promote Choices Aberdeen’s services via networking, social media, and workshops, and provide statistical reports to the Service Manager.
  • Uphold the charity’s values of compassion, respect, and neutrality, aligning with the BACP Ethical Framework.
  • Engage in supervision to ensure client and counsellor support, attend Board Meetings, and prepare high-quality reports.
  • Continuously develop cultural and social awareness related to pregnancy choices and maintain professional development.

Additional Duties:

  • Undertake reasonable tasks within the role’s scope, including occasional evening/weekend work.
  • Adhere to Choices Aberdeen’s ethos and Christian occupational requirement (Equalities Act 2010).
  • This women-only role ensures client safety and dignity (Equality Act 2010, Schedule 3, Paragraph 27).

Job Title: Service Manager

Purpose: Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Service Manager leads Choices Aberdeen’s strategic direction, operations, and resource management, ensuring high-quality counselling services and organisational growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Foster a positive, inclusive culture reflecting the charity’s values of non-judgmentalism, compassion, and client autonomy. Lead staff to deliver excellent counselling services, promote professional development, and maintain high standards.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure legal and best practice compliance, including funder reporting. Support the Board with effective governance structures, policies, and risk management. Prepare high-standard reports for Board Meetings.
  • Strategy & Planning: Collaborate with the Board to develop and implement the charity’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. Monitor progress, manage risks, and drive innovation to maintain sector leadership.
  • External Relations: Represent Choices professionally in media, networking, and partnerships with aligned organizations (e.g., Pregnancy Centres Network, Scottish Government). Enhance the charity’s profile and develop new opportunities.
  • Financial Management: Oversee financial health, pursue funding, and provide accurate financial reports to the Board, leveraging external expertise as needed.
  • Operations: Lead the team, ensuring clear responsibilities and collaboration. Provide professional supervision, conduct performance appraisals, and serve as the Child Protection Officer and PVG lead signatory.
